We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate to join our Biomolecular NMR group at the University of Udine (Italy). The position is fully funded and part of the PhD Programme in Molecular Medicine (Programme n. 4), with a duration of three years starting on 1 November 2026.
Application deadline: 4 June 2026

Research focus
Our research investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying amyloid formation, with particular emphasis on transthyretin (TTR) and immunoglobulin light chains, both implicated in cardiac amyloidosis. We aim to go beyond traditional in vitro structural studies by exploring protein structure and dynamics in physiologically relevant environments. Current approaches include:
• NMR studies in complex biological media (e.g., patient serum)
• Rheo-NMR to mimic cardiac mechanical stress conditions
• Investigation of protein–protein interactions guided by proteomics data
Collaborative environment
The project is embedded in a highly collaborative network, including:
• University of Pavia and IRCCS Ospedale San Matteo
• National Amyloidosis Centre (UCL, UK), providing access to clinical data and translational perspectives
In parallel, the group is actively involved in the development of next-generation TTR stabilizers as potential therapeutic agents.
We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in structural biology, biophysics, or related fields. Experience in NMR, protein biochemistry, or molecular biophysics is welcome but not strictly required.
Please feel free to circulate this announcement to potentially interested candidates. For informal inquiries, do not hesitate to contact me.
