1) One-year post-doc position: time-resolved NMR methodsat CERM, University of Florence, Italy 

The position is for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in the “Time-resolved magnetic resonance to investigate dynamic events in biological systems and biotransformations (TiReD)” project. The research activity will take place at the CERM in Florence, and foresees visits to different labs in Europe. The project has support from PRIN, and is carried out in collaboration with the DISTAL of the University of Bologna (Dr. Enrico Luchinat) and the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Naples Federico II (Dr. Nunzia Iaccarino).

Work and profile
You will be responsible for the development of the regularization of high-order tensorial decomposition methods through “perceptual criteria”, as well as indirect hard modelling for the analysis of time-resolved spectra in complex mixtures.

  • You hold a PhD (or are near to complete it) in chemistry, physics or biophysics, mathematics or computer science, or related areas.
  • You have experience in chemometrics, multivariate analysis, and/or high-order tensor decompositions.
  • You are interested in communication and dissemination activities or are willing to learn.

 

2,3) Two 1.5-year post-doc positions: spectroscopic characterization and simulation of bioinspired inorganic oxides at CERM, University of Florence, Italy  

The position is for a 1.5-year postdoctoral fellowship in the “Mechanism of bioinspired inorganic oxide formation (MInO)” project. The research activity will take place at the CERM in Florence, and foresees national and international collaborations. The project has support from PRIN-PNRR, and is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry of the University of Torino (Dr. Angelo Gallo).
There are two lines of research:

2) You will work on molecular simulations of the interaction of soluble precursors of inorganic oxides with proteins and peptides, in solution and in their crystalline forms, as well as the simulation of the interaction of proteins and peptides with the formed inorganic oxides.

  • You hold a PhD (or are near to complete it) in chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, chemical biology, structural biology or related areas.
  • You have experience in molecular simulations (classical and quantum).
  • You are interested in communication and dissemination activities or are willing to learn.

3) You will work on the spectroscopic (mainly solution NMR) of the interaction of soluble precursors of inorganic oxides with proteins and peptides, as well as the interaction of proteins and peptides with the formed inorganic oxides through solid-state NMR.

  • You hold a PhD (or are near to complete it) in chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, chemical biology, structural biology or related areas.
  • You have experience in Structural methods.
  • You are interested in communication and dissemination activities or are willing to learn.

Description of the organization
CERM offers unique access to first-class instrumentation for structural biology: twelve high-resolution NMR spectrometers ranging from 400 MHz to 1200 MHz are available. CERM also features an advanced molecular biology laboratory and a biophysical laboratory with last-generation Q-Band CW/FT-EPR (with the possibility of operating in CW-X-band) EPR spectrometer, dynamic light scattering, CD, stopped-flow, fluorimetry, UV-visible spectrophotometers, isothermal micro-calorimeter and differential scanning calorimeter, atomic absorption (ICP-MS). Laboratories equipped for mass spectrometry (ESI and MALDI-TOF) and X-ray diffraction are flanking the NMR research infrastructure. For further information on CERM, please visit www.cerm.unifi.it.

In our group, an open mindset towards highly interdisciplinary collaborations are more than welcome (e.g.: we collaborate regularly with psychologists, historians of Science…). You will have ample time for discussing new ideas in research and education with colleagues, and you will surely get to know a lot about (paramagnetic) NMR, structural biology methods, and programming.
